Lesson 3 — Numbers and Counting
Welcome to your third step in learning Turkish!
In this lesson, you will move beyond basic words and learn how to quantify the world around you. Learning numbers is a major milestone in language learning, as it unlocks your ability to tell time, handle money, talk about dates, and provide contact information. Turkish numbers follow a very logical and consistent pattern, making them quite easy to master once you learn the core building blocks.
What You Will Learn
Cardinal Numbers: How to count from 0 to 10, 10 to 100, and beyond.
The Logic of Construction: Learn the simple additive rule (e.g., how "12" is literally "ten-two").
Applying Large Numbers: How to build and read multi-digit numbers (hundreds, thousands, and millions).

Important Notes
-
Logical Patterns: Unlike many other languages, Turkish numbers are completely regular after 10. Once you memorize the base numbers (0–10, 20, 30... 100, 1000), you can build any number in the language.
-
Building Numbers: To form larger numbers, simply string the components together in descending order of magnitude:
- Example: 238 = 200 (iki yüz) + 30 (otuz) + 8 (sekiz) → iki yüz otuz sekiz
- Example: 6415 = 6000 (altı bin) + 400 (dört yüz) + 10 (on) + 5 (beş) → altı bin dört yüz on beş
